Daily Practice
Draw closer to Jesus with personal pathways for spiritual formation.
The mission of University United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world by offering a meaningful and relevant Christian witness that welcomes all, nurtures growth, and serves our community.
How, exactly, do we “make disciples”?
In the same way we exercise to build strong, healthy bodies, regular spiritual practices help form a vibrant, dynamic faith — one that embodies both the open hearts and outward faith that defines the University UMC community. We’ve assembled a variety of resources to help you embody the teachings of Christ in your daily life. Explore these practices as you build your own rhythm for individual growth and stronger communal bonds. If you have any questions, please email Rev. Katie.
Being A United Methodist
With thousands of different Christian denominations across the globe, what’s unique about The United Methodist Church? Listen to what defines the essential character of our expression of Christianity, and how our life together meets the world's needs.
Baptism and Communion
In the United Methodist Church we recognize two sacraments — baptism and communion. Why are they important? What do they mean to us? These acts are special in the church because Jesus commanded them and participated in them.
Works of Mercy
As Methodists, we believe our faith cannot be separated from acts of mercy and justice — tangible expressions of our commitment to love and serve others. This "social holiness" lived in the world has a transformative impact on individuals and communities.
Why Worship Matters
We often characterize faith as a “personal journey,” so it can be tempting to think spiritual growth should be a solo activity. Listen to why we believe faith is best lived in life together, drawing from the strength, support and inspiration only community can provide.
Keeping Sabbath
When life is difficult and tiring, often the best gift a person can receive is permission to stop and rest. Stepping away reminds us of a God who loves and cares for us because of who we are, not what we do. Listen here to find out how the practice of Sabbath can become a way of active resistance and freedom from the confining expectations in the world around us.
Reading Scripture Responsibly
The Bible is a central source of wisdom and discernment for our Methodist faith, in conversation with tradition, reason and experience. But what do these writings really say and how should they be interpreted for life today? Hear our take on the most faithful way of exploring scripture.
