Lent Season Events

Lent is a season of reflection, prayer, and preparation as we journey toward the hope of Easter. Throughout these forty days, we invite you to join us for worship, special services, and opportunities for spiritual growth and renewal. Explore the schedule of Lent and Holy Week gatherings below, and find meaningful ways to pause, connect, and walk together in faith during this sacred season.

Ash Wednesday | February 18 | 6:30 p.m. Wesley Foundation

Maundy Thursday | April 2 | 6:30 p.m. Sanctuary

Good Friday | April 3 | 6:30 p.m. Sanctuary

Easter Sunday | April 5 | 8:30 a.m. & 11:00 a.m. Sanctuary

On Ash Wednesday, February 18, UUMC is taking church "to the streets" with Ashes to Geaux. Offered at 7 a.m. and Noon, we will be sharing the sign of the cross in ashes, along with a brief blessing and a prayer for students and for those who may not be able to attend a service but who wish to begin the season of Lent grounded in God's love on their way to work.

Join us! We need lay leadership to help in this ministry both early morning and at noontime at various locations, and no prior experience is required.

University United Methodist Church and the Wesley Foundation at LSU will gather at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18 at the Wesley Foundation Chapel to commemorate Ash Wednesday. Come enter into this holy season with a reflection on the great invitation that God has given to all. If you are able to park at the church and walk to the Wesley Foundation, we would like to leave parking for those for whom walking is difficult.

The Wesley Foundation is at 333 E. Chimes St., behind University United Methodist Church.

All are invited to stay for dinner after worship. If you are able, bring a dish to share.

Monday mornings during Lent, meet at University UMC in the front lot at 8:45 a.m. Take a walk together and share prayer for 40 minutes. No registration required. Any questions? Contact Rev. Mary Rachel at revmaryrachel@universitymethodist.org

Beginning Thursday, February 19, at Noon, join us at the LSU Union for lunch and a Lenten reflection on The Spirituality of the Psalms. In this short and incisive work, Walter Brueggemann reflects on ways the psalms can support us through the ups and downs of everyday life. Find the book on Amazon, your favorite library, or bookseller. Join us for a good discussion whether you’ve read or not. Any questions? Contact Rev. Mary Rachel at revmaryrachel@universitymethodist.org

When the demands of life seem to pull you in every direction but your own, there is a quiet space waiting—a time to breathe, to listen, and to simply be. These 40-minute moments during Lent are not more tasks to complete but gifts for your own spiritual well-being. Through simple guided reflections where scripture and poetry meet, themes of loss, hope, grace, and presence unfold like a conversation with your own soul, reminding you of the deeper currents beneath the surface of your busy life.

Rev. Katie McKay Simpson will lead these during Lent, 8:00-8:40 a.m., on Zoom, beginning every Wednesday February 25. This is offered for church members, friends, and your coworkers in order to provide a space apart for reflection and renewal. Register on our website or Church Center app to receive the link and the weekly session outline. Any questions? Contact Rev. Katie at revkatie@universitymethodist.org.

Good Friday: Friday, April 3 at 5 p.m. (Led by Lisa Frost)
